Two soldiers martyred by firing from Afghan side in S.Waziristan

Two soldiers were killed and another one was injured in cross-border firing near the Afghan border in the country’s northwest, officials said Sunday.

According to an Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) statement, unidentified gunmen from Afghanistan fired at a checkpost in Baramal area. Resultant, two soldiers identified as Idrees and Arshad embraced martyrdom while Saeed was injured. It said that security forces also gave a befitting response. A senior security official, requesting anonymity, told AFP that the incident took place in the Barmal area of South Waziristan, which shares its borders with Afghanistan’s Paktika province. The incident was confirmed by local administration officials and other senior security sources. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Separately, an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on Sunday inured five security personnel in Kuz Chamarkand area of Mohmand Agency, an ISPR official confirmed.

According to the official, five officials of the Frontier Corps were on routine patrolling in the area when an IED planted by a road blew off with a big bang, injuring them on the spot. Soon after the blast, other officials of the security forces rushed to the spot and shifted the injured soldiers to Agency Headquarter Hospital Ghalanai, Mohmand Agency. Those injured include Qaiser Hayat, Akbarullah, Asad, Sada Muhammad and Noorzeb. He said the officials of the security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation. The official also confirmed that all the five soldiers were stable.

COAS Gen Raheel calls PM Nawaz before NSC meeting

Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Shareef called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif before the meeting of National Security Committee (NSC) on Tuesday and informed him of the situation on the Line of Control (LoC).

The PM is chairing an inter-provincial National Action Plan (NAP) meeting which is attended by all the chief ministers, key federal ministers and military top brass to discuss progress on various points of the anti-terror plan.

National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Nasir Khan Janjua, who is the chief of NAP Task Force, briefed the leadership on its implementation and the problems faced by the provinces.

After the NSA brief, the chief ministers are updating the participants about the status of NAP execution in their provinces.

The NSC, which will meet after the NAP deliberations, will discuss Kashmir issue and Indian aggression on the LoC. On Monday, a meeting of all the parliamentary parties was held at the PM House which fully backed the government on its stance on Kashmir.

The PM’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, National Security Adviser, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Services Chiefs, Director General ISI, Director General Military Operations and foreign secretary will be present at the meeting.
